The Ashes is known to be the Test cricket series that displays the most celebrated rivalry in the international cricket between England and Australia, this event dating back in 1882.

This series is played two times a year being played in UK and Australia taking turns. Cricket is a summer sport and in this way the series is alternating between 18 and 30 months. The Ashes consists of 5 Test matches, 2 innings per game, regulated by rules of international Test-match cricket.

the name is quite strange one might add, but you need to know that it is actually coming from a satirical obituary that used to be published in The Sporting Times, a British newspaper of 1882 when Australia beat England on the UK’s ground for the first time. The obituary was meant to mock the event saying that English cricket died and as such it will be cremated with its ashes carried to Australia. The next English tour that was held in Australia was meant to be the quest to regain the ashes.

In that tour the England’s captain was presented a small terracotta urn by a group of Melbourne women which urn was reported to contain the ash of a cricket item something to belong to the equipment. This is why many the cricket fans believe that the trophy of The Ashes series is this urn, but Bligh, the captain at that time just took it a gift presented to himself.

The urn has been replicated several times and it is in the possession of the victorious teams to symbolize their winning in The Ashes series. But regardless of all these replicas, the original urn can be seen nowadays in the Marylebone Cricket Club Museum when it was donated by Bligh’s widow.

Since the series of 1998 – 1999 Ashes, a representation of of the Ashes urn made of Waterford Crystal was handed over to the winners as the official trophy of that specific series. The fact is that a team must win a whole series to have the right to possess the Ashes. The results of drawn series for instance bring in the center of attention the previous holders who have retained the Ashes.

Meanwhile its inauguration the series have been played 64 times Australia winning 31, while England 28. The rest of the 5 series were drawn to establish that Australia had the Ashes for 4 times while England only 1 time. As such the win:loss ratio displayed by Ashes Tests reveals 121 winning for Australia to 95 wins fro UK, 84 being draws.

The series have been played over 5 Test matches though 4-match series and 6-match series have been performed. Australians had 10 wickets in a match on 41 occasions while Englishmen 38.

Brian Lara is known to be the best batsman of all times mesmerizing a the cricket fans with his ability to handle the batting. A batsman is known to have an indelible mark the moment he has a signature shot which in Lara case this happened for a few signature shots.

But his abilities in batting are not the only ones, also in 2010 he got the highest individual scores in Test and First class innings and as such holding the world record. The cores go like this: 400 not out in Test-best, and 501 in the First Class best.

He is known to have his debut in 1990, after which he was shortly seen as a brilliant talent in the cricket world. His authority in the game was due to his maiden Test century against Australian in 1992, when he scored a hugely 277.

This way he managed to dominate the Australian bowling attacking in fact not offering a bit of chance. His bahavior as much as it was revered in the field was not liked at all in his private life where he was seen as a prima-dona, this is the reason why many of cricket fans like him and dislike him on the same time.

In 1998 he was assumed the role of a captain and because fame happened to him at so early age, he was only 23, maybe there was also a lot of pressure involved which many of his detractors couldn’t understand. After 2 years only he resigned from the West Indies captain role as he was not satisfied with his performance.

Three occasions were given to him to be the West Indie team captain, but each of these positions ended up in controversial situations. When he last resigned from the captain position at the age of 38 he was still in his top condition. His departure actually happened at the end of the World Cup Campaign in 2007 lead by West Indie team.

In the next seasons Lara played for Trinidad and Tobago First -Class games (2007/2008) with a massive scoring against Guyana. The season ended before it was programmed as Lionel Baker belonging to Leeward Islands team has fractured with a bouncer his forearm. There was also an ODI debut for the West Indies when playing 2 years later against Pakistan.

Brian Lara is also known to have played for Warwickshire in England, Mumbai Champs in India, Northern Tranvaal in RSA as well as in ICC World XI. Brian Lara is to be remembered as the living legend of the cricket game and the greatest batsman ever. He will keep being an inspiration to those who are into cricket games, especially the young generations.

Cricket had existed since several centuries ago. Since cricket was introduced, many matches have been organized and played. The first international match took place in 1844. Cricket was originated in England.

Many people claim the cricket was invented by the youngsters that live during the Saxon time in Weald. Weald is a place that is located near Kent and Sussex. The people that live in Weald run small farms and make metal equipments. Cricket remained to be a children game until many years later before it was introduced to the adults.

According to the archeologist, the only evidence that they found which dated back to 1598 states that cricket was played in 1550. This means that cricket is played before 1550. In the earliest evidence, the cricket game was referred as creckett. At that time, England always engaged in bartering business with the County of Flanders. Later, the County of Flanders becomes a territory of the Dutchy Burgundy. Therefore, the name cricket is derived from the Middle Dutch. In Middle Dutch, krick means stick. In Old French, croquet refers to a specific club that is used to play croquet. Cricket is different than other games in that its rules require it to be played on short grass. Hence, the people often use field that are cleared away by the goats.

In the 17th century, the cricket game was taken up by the men. When King Charles 1 was ruling, the gentry show some interest and become part time players. During the reign of the Hanoverian, companies invested in the cricket game so that they can create a professional club. By establishing the professional cricket club, it becomes a world renowned game that is based in London in South of England. Later, crickets spread to other countries in the world including United States and Caribbean islands. The East India Company introduced the game to India.

Article by Sophiehart

There has been a long debate on the controversies between the ICC Cricket world championship and T-20 cricket world championship for the past few years since the T-20 cricket was introduced into the world. Many cricket news critics were of the view that the twenty-twenty cricket will attract more audience than the normal 50-overs cricket, because of its time and cost-effectiveness with immediate results.

But unfortunately, we haven’t seen any such difference of inclining or declining audience-ship in both of the two games. We do admit that the newly introduced form of cricket is more interesting and takes not enough time for the outcome of potential results, but it doesn’t mean that 50-overs cricket has lost its charm among the cricket fans.

One of the most interesting examples of this form of cricket was noticed during ICC Cricket world cup 2011, where there was a big and even more than expected crowd during every world cup match. People have gone quite confused watching this situation, especially some of the sporting sports analysts, who have been claiming decline in the readership, audience-ship and viewership of cricket, were stunned watching this scenario.

Well, there are so many reasons for this. Few among them include the examples of football, as football lovers cannot leave playing and watching matches even if they take more than 3 hours to finish the game. Same is the case with cricket lovers too, as they cannot live without playing and watching cricket. When we talk of football, European and American nations are much into it, whereas, on the cricket side, there are Asian nations who have a craze of this game.

Coming to the comparison of ICC cricket and T-20 cricket, following are some of the major noticeable differences:

1. ICC cricket takes much time to finish as compared to T-202. T-20 costs less to organize the event as compared to ICC cricket.3. T-20 is quite fast and lets you know the talent of huge stroke players, whereas, the ICC cricket is quite slow, which gives you the opportunity to assess potential players.

Keeping these things in vision, different sporting sports experts and cricket news analysts suggest that the concerned authorities should take advantage of these two different events to choose players for two different types of cricket; that is for power play & normal play and for test cricket. It will really help them make teams stronger who will ultimately attract more audience.
